Wing Woman of the Week with Micki Chau of the Olfactory

Updated: Mar 19, 2020

Earlier this week, I sat down with Micki Chau of the Olfactory, and I asked her the burning questions of what any of us would want to know from a fellow wing woman. Get cozy and continue reading about this amazing local entrepreneur and friend.

  • What is your biggest pain point in building relationships?

I am a deep connector, so I struggle with navigating surface-level relationships. I’m learning that not everyone I connect with is meant to be a super deep relationship and being ok with that. But also respecting that “light” relationships drain me, so I tend to not keep them.

  • What have you learned from past friendships that didn’t work out?

That it’s a good thing when something that’s not right for you doesn’t fly. That is its way of “working out”.

  • What advice would you give your younger self?

Stop trying to fit in and be ok with standing out! Jump in, fail lots and get to bed earlier because you’re not a night owl (get over it!).

  • If you could magically solve one problem in the world, what would that be?

Hunger. Absolutely.

  • How did you find your purpose?

I don’t know that I’ve ever “found” my purpose, but maybe I’ve “made” it? I remember feeling a lot of pressure in my early 20’s to find my purpose and eventually I realized I had the power to make it anything I dreamed of, by trying LOTS of different things and paying attention to my intuition. I track what feels good and what doesn’t and adjust as I go. I’ve learned it.

  • Who are your SHEroes (AKA female heroes)?

Easy! Oprah, J-Lo, Rachel Hollis (love her grit and resilience), my friend Kylie Woods from Chic Geek YYC, Jane Fonda, Tiffany Pham, Amy Poehler, Jen Sincero, my mama.

  • What podcasts/books are you listening/reading right now?

Skimm’d From The Couch, More Than One Thing (everyone go listen!), Rise - Rachel Hollis, Marie Forleo, Girl Tries Life

  • What makes you happy?

Quality time with friends and family. “5 minute” calls with my bestie that end up being 2 hours, cooking a meal with my husband, sunshine, exercise, journaling, dogs… I could keep going!

  • Where can we find you?

I’m on Instagram as @theolfactoryshop and the best way to keep in touch is to subscribe to my newsletter at (bottom right-hand corner).
