I had the pleasure of chatting with RMT Vicki Cala, owner of a beautiful home based studio in Bridgeland. Vicki and I met at Rosso's Coffee about two years ago to discuss our mutual love of a podcast, and I have truly loved getting to know her ever since. She led a beautiful workshop for In Her Circle in April 2019 called WE align and shared many insightful tips regarding self care and grounding into self. In our interview, she shares what is the number one problem she would solve in the world today if she could, what her love language is when it comes to relationships, and what led her to becoming a Registered Massage Therapist. 1. What makes you happy?
So many things! Being outside, reading a good book, strong coffee in the morning, seeing friends, going for bike rides and puttering in the garden!
2. What advice would you give your younger self?
Speak up and use your voice. Learn to set boundaries and don’t give your power away.
3. If you could magically solve one problem in the world, what would that be?
Gah, there are so many things but one that really tugs at me is sexual trafficking.
4. How did you find your purpose?
After experiencing some medical issues in 2009, I became a Certified Nutritional Consultant and really enjoyed helping people find healthy ways to eat. A few years later, I wanted to encourage people more hands on (pardon the pun), so I then became a Registered Massage Therapist! Helping and encouraging others on their journey to feel better is so rewarding!
5. What is your biggest pain point in building relationships?
I really love quality time spent with people, so setting aside the time for deep chats and fun activities is important to me. It’s easy for me to get lost in day to day stuff, so I try to keep my relationships a priority by carving out time for them.
6. What have you learned from past friendships that didn't work out?
It’s ok to move on from friendships; they had a place in your life at that time, but it’s natural for them to change and ebb and flow. Acknowledge it for the gift it was and move forward.
7. Who are your SHEroes (AKA female heroes)?
Jasmine Star and Chalene Johnson are two ladies that I look up to for business advice. Gina Rodriguez, Cara Alwill Leyba, and Oprah have always inspired me. And my sis for having a huge heart and spending her life giving back to others.
8. What podcasts/books are you listening/reading right now?
Books - We are the Weather by Jonathan Safran Foer.
Podcasts - I have way too many on the go all the time, but some of my favs right now are: Ologies with Alie Ward, Build Your Tribe, Making Sense with Sam Harris, and Style Your Mind Podcast.
9. Where can we find you?
I have a home based studio located in Bridgeland, Calgary.
